James Lanich, Ph.D., President & CEO

Dr. Lanich has devoted his adult life to improving educational opportunities and outcomes for students, particularly those historically deemed disadvantaged. He founded Educational Results Partnership in 2001 to provide a forum for educators to collaborate and share best practices based on reliable, actionable data. Dr. Lanich’s passion for helping students succeed has been shaped by more than 20 years in K-16 and graduate education as a public school teacher and administrator, university professor, researcher, business community liaison, and foundation president. He led Core Curriculum Services and the Academic Achievement Alliance for the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools. Over succeeding years, he was appointed by the Governor of California to the Academic Content Standards Commission, and also served on the state’s African American Achievement Gap Advisory Commission. In 2006, he was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Education to the National Assessment Governing Board. In 2012, he took on the role of executive director of the California Partnership for Achieving Student Success.

Dr. Lanich holds a BS in biological sciences from the University of California, Irvine, an MA in secondary education from Cal State University, Los Angeles, and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of Southern California.

Ken Sorey, Senior Executive Vice President

Mr. Sorey has more than 20 years of experience helping schools and higher education institutions improve educational productivity and workforce preparation. Along with his role at Educational Results Partnership, he serves as project director of Cal-PASS Plus, the California Partnership for Achieving Student Success. In his roles, he manages statewide and national initiatives that provide actionable data to public schools, districts, colleges, and universities which leads to improved academic success, college completion, and better workplace outcomes for students and employers.

Prior to working in education, Mr. Sorey was a marketing consultant to corporations, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations. He holds a BA in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.

Anthony Dalton, Senior Executive Vice President of Data Science

Mr. Dalton leads the data analysis and information technology teams at Educational Results Partnership. He has more than 17 years of data, IT, and business systems management experience in various industries. At ERP, he is the lead developer of the Cal-PASS Plus system and the LaunchBoard, and he manages creation of the Honor Roll Schools roster. Before joining ERP, he developed one of the largest supply chain enterprise resource planning systems in the nation.

Mr. Dalton is a Microsoft certified database administrator and Microsoft certified systems engineer. He holds a BS in computer science and an MS in data science from Southern Methodist University.
